While strolling along the cobblestone pathways that meander by the stunning San Diego Bay at Seaport Village, one might never imagine that this lovely tropical oasis was once a landfill. Yet, truth be known, San Diego’s beautiful shopping, dining and entertainment center was once a landfill over Punta de los Muertos (Point of the Dead) where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy. It was also a railroad yard where goods and other products were unloaded from ships. Since it opened in 1980, visitors from all areas of the world have come to enjoy the delectable fare, one-of-a-kind shops and marvelous entertainment that Seaport Village of San Diego has to offer. There’s even an antique carousel that dates back to 1895, a delight for children of all ages. Street performers, face-painters, musicians and other entertainers round-out this truly memorable San Diego experience. |
